After Thomas Letsch left VfL Bochum, Peter Stöger was considered the most promising candidate to succeed him. Negotiations have already reportedly taken place with the former BVB and Cologne coach, notably regarding his release from Admira Wacker Mödling, where he currently works as sports director. However, Stöger canceled.

Update: “You called me last night,” he said during the “Today” conference. “It was a great conversation. It would also have been very interesting and exciting for me. I considered taking this position to put myself back in the conversation. But short-term nature ultimately ruled against this decision. Also because of the contractual situation at Admira.

The Austrian second division team had previously been completely surprised by the developments. “I haven’t heard of it, I can’t even imagine it. Unless there is something we don’t know, but I really should be wrong, » sports director Philip Thonhauser explained to the « Niederösterreichische Nachrichten ». Managing director Niklas Belihart and Thonhauser were also « almost paralyzed » when « Krone » questioned him, as was said there. Both are completely ignorant. Stöger himself, whom the newspapers could not contact, was present on Sunday at the birthday party of the manufacturer of Flyeralarm and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Admira, Gerhard Bügler. Here again, a possible abrupt farewell was not a problem.

Following Letsch’s separation, Bochum announced that it would provide information on the new appointment as quickly as possible. In addition to Stöger, who was initially supposed to be hired as a « fireman » for the next six weeks, Stefan Kuntz, most recently the Turkish national coach, and former Union Berlin coach Urs Fischer were also exchanged. According to Kicker, Dirk Schuster was also considered.

The Castroper Straße club seemed almost saved, but after a negative run, they found themselves once again plunged into the relegation battle. Bochum has five defeats in the last six games and, in the standings, the gap with FSV Mainz 05 as relegation is only three points. In Cologne, Bochum lost the lead in the final minutes of the match this weekend.
