With VfB Stuttgart awaiting offers for courted centre-backs Konstantinos Mavropanos (25) and Hiroki Ito (23) this summer, the Swabians apparently already have a replacement up their sleeve. As ‘Stuttgarter Nachrichten’ reports, VfB are considering bringing Matej Maglica back.

As a result, it’s entirely possible that the Stuttgart-based company will soon make use of an entrenched buyout option. The 1.98m defensive giant was part of the VfB reserve from the summer of 2020 until the end of 2021, before being first loaned and then permanently drawn to FC St. Gallen 1879 – but not without a contractual clause. The Stuttgart-based company should be able to bring the Croatian back for €450,000, well below the current market value of €750,000.
With Silas, Kalajdzic & Co: the most expensive purchases of VfB Stuttgart
Maglica has made 41 appearances for the Swabian second team and even made his Bundesliga debut in November 2021 in a 0-1 draw against Arminia Bielefeld. The centre-back immediately secured a regular place with Swiss Premier League side St. Gallen as the current fifth in the table, still battling for a European Cup spot, has 45 appearances (four goals ) nowadays.
Professionals loaned to VfB Stuttgart with no great future
The future looks different for the six award-winning VfB professionals. According to Kicker, Roberto Massimo (22; Académico Viseu), Momo Cissé (20; Wisla Kraków) and Clinton Mola (22; Blackburn Rovers) are to be sold. Mateo Klimowicz (22; Atlético de San Luis) should either be loaned out again or be dropped as well.
Another loan is planned for Mohamed Sankoh (19; Vitesse Arnheim), while Wahid Faghir (19) is the only one who can hope for another chance at Stuttgart. After initial struggles at FC Nordsjaelland, the striker has scored four goals in 15 appearances but the option to buy just over €4m is unlikely to be exercised.
