The former Werder professional Wesley has ended his career. The 35-year-old midfielder wrote on Instagram: « My joy for the path we have come so far cannot be described in words! My sincere gratitude goes to all the people who have been part of my career , each one has played an essential role in my professional and personal development. I would like to thank all the teams who have trusted in my work, the fans, the press and my family and friends who have always supported me. Now begins a new stage full of challenges and surprises for all those who love and live (Site notre bureau spécialisé)! »
The Brazilian national double player wants to work in the future as a consultant to accompany young players on a suitable career path. Most recently, Wesley played in the Brazilian second division for AA Ponte Preta. The right-handed player started his career at FC Santos, from where Werder Bremen signed him for €7.5million in 2010 – so far only four green-white newcomers have cost more.
Krkic, Özil, Bale & Co.: These players ended their professional careers in 2023
Wesley never really made it to the Weser and is still considered a big disappointment today. Until his return to Brazil for SE Palmeiras for at least €6m in March 2012, he played just 31 games for Werder (2 goals/4 assists). After Wesley was out of Werder’s first year for a long time with a torn tendon, he almost completely lost his place in the second’s starting XI. Successor clubs Palmeiras and FC São Paulo are the ones for which Wesley has played the most: 64 and 60 times respectively.
