FC St. Pauli can finally turn to Fabian Hürzeler. On Friday, the Hamburg team announced the extension of the contract of the coach, who has lost only four in his 41 second division matches with FCSP. The former assistant coach’s employment document reportedly expired at the end of the season.
The club has not commented on the content of the contract such as the agreed duration. In particular, an exit clause, probably necessary, seems to have recently extended the agreement. Recently, the “Hamburger Abendblatt” speculated that the now concluded agreement could contain a corresponding clause that would apply if the neighborhood club did not achieve promotion. According to “Kicker”, no such contractual option exists. Club president Oke Göttlich commented on the difficult agreement process: “I would like to thank Andreas Bornemann and Fabian Hürzeler for their excellent work for FC St. Pauli and for taking the time necessary to find the best solution. possible for all parties – despite growing public pressure.
Hürzeler explained: “Many thanks to FC St. Pauli for their trust and cooperation so far. All this time, the discussions with Andreas and the executive committee were marked by mutual appreciation, because we are all united by one goal: we want to achieve as much success as possible for FC St. Pauli and its supporters. This is my job as head coach – and I will continue to work on it with all my might.
In recent weeks, the topic of Hürzeler’s contract has been greatly exaggerated in the media – with the help of sports director Bornemann. He had put pressure on him publicly. He now explains: “I look forward to continuing to work with Fabian, who has been constructive, professional and confident from the start. Either way, the most important thing is the daily work on the ground – and this has been characterized by clarity and professionalism since the beginning of our journey together.
Hürzeler took over from his former boss Timo Schultz in the middle of the 2022/23 season and followed it up with a ten-game winning streak, which has never been achieved by a team in the history of the 2nd single track. Bundesliga. Hürzeler and his team also set the championship record with 25 consecutive matches without defeat.
