After anger over ticket prices for FC Bayern’s Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk, there was a wave of cancellations from Munich fans. As the German record champions announced, after initially receiving 55,000 ticket requests, they had only 19,000 left by Monday afternoon. FC Bayern has no influence on the price of Shakhtar, which plays its matches in Gelsenkirchen due to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

The active Bayern fan scene called for a boycott of the match on December 10. “A large part of the active Südkurve will not attend the away match against Shakhtar Donetsk due to pricing circumstances,” said a statement from Südkurve Munich. “Bayern fans, don’t be fooled and boycott the away match at Shakhtar Donetsk. They are in favor of “fair prices”.

Dynamic pricing system for Shakhtar matches in Gelsenkirchen

Fans have highlighted the Ukrainian club’s dynamic pricing system, which results in particularly high prices for a top opponent based in the same country as the stadium, such as FC Bayern. In calling for a boycott, Südkurve Munich cited the price to be paid for supporters of other clubs during away matches against Donetsk.

So, Bayern fans pay 105 euros for a place, Atalanta Bergamo fans get tickets from 28 euros and Young Boys from 31 euros. Standing room tickets should therefore cost 52 euros for Bayern fans, twice as much as for Bergamo fans. Standing tickets at Bayern home matches cost 19 euros.

This week, FC Bayern will face a reformed Champions League home match against Benfica Lisbon for the first time on Wednesday (9:00 p.m. / DAZN). After defeats against Aston Villa (0:1) and FC Barcelona (1:4), the Munich team is under pressure. In the second home match of this first-class season, after the 9-2 victory against Dinamo Zagreb at the start, the team is now aiming for its second victory against the Portuguese team of former Heidenheimer Jan-Niklas Beste. Bayern is ranked 23rd out of 36 teams. Only the first eight teams advance directly to the round of 16. The next 16 teams in the table will face the remaining eight participants in the round of 16 in the round of 16.
