Joker Ramsak scores twice
The German U17 national team started the European Championship final in Hungary with a clear victory. Coach Christian Wück’s side won 4-0 (2-0) against Portugal in Debrecen on Wednesday. SC Freiburg’s Noah Darvich (32nd minute), Dortmund’s Almugera Kabar (39th) and FC Bayern’s Joker Robert Ramsak (59th, 90th+4) scored for the DFB juniors.
The other German opponents in Group C are defending champions France on Saturday and Scotland on Tuesday. The French team beat the Scots 3-1 on Wednesday. Wück considers each game of the « strong group » as a « last game ».
For the German U17s, it’s not just a good place in the European Championship, but also a ticket to the World Cup. The five World Cup places go to the four semi-finalists and the winner of a playoff match between the two quarter-finalists who played in the best group stage. The first and second from the four groups of the European Championship will qualify in Hungary for the quarter-finals on May 27. The semi-finals will be played on May 30 and the final on June 2.
