Former Bayern striker Joshua Zirkzee was named in the Dutch squad shortly before the start of the European Championship. The Bologna FC striker will join the Oranje team in Wolfsburg on Thursday, as announced by the Dutch association KNVB.
Bond’s coach Ronald Koeman recently had to withdraw Frenkie de Jong (27) and Teun Koopmeiners (26) from the team due to injuries. Ian Maatsen (22) from Dortmund has already been nominated and, with Zirkzee, the team again has 26 players. The 23-year-old was trained in Bayern’s youth team, but failed to establish himself among the professionals.
In the summer of 2022, Zirkzee finally moved to Bologna, where he increased his market value to €50 million this season and qualified for the Champions League with the club. The striker is intensely courted by AC Milan.
The Netherlands, 1988 European champions, will face Poland in the first group match in Hamburg on Sunday; the other opponents will be Austria and France, finalist.
