The 1st FC Heidenheim buried the dream of the SV Elversberg village club of the first promotion at the Bundesliga and obtained relegation at the last minute. The Ostalb team won the relegation secondary with the Saarlanders 2-1 (1: 1) through an additional time and goes to the elite class after 2-2 in the first leg.
In front of 10,000 spectators, Mathias Honsak scored the goals of the team of the coach Frank Schmidt in the 9th minute and Leo Scienza (90. + 5), who the year of match as a table-16. had finished VFL Bochum and Holstein Kiel in front of the relegations. The remuneration of Robin Fellhauer (31st) in the meantime, which qualified as the third of the 2nd League for relegation, was not sufficient for the promotion of Bundesliga. The 1st FC Köln and Hamburger SV had obtained it directly.
With the victory, the Heidenheimers, who even played international in the league of the conference this season, arrested the SVE fairy tale trip. Four years ago, the Saarlanders still kicked the regional league. Then, the ascent succeeded twice: 2022 in the 3rd division, 2023 in the 2nd Bundesliga. The team of Horst Steffen coach was not sufficient for the very big coup.
Strong start of Heidenheim
Unlike last Thursday, Heidenheim was not surprised from abroad at the start. The guests, who were 0: 2 in the first duel for the break, were well awake from the kick -off and after five minutes by Marvin Pierringer. However, the striker failed due to the goalkeeper of SVE Nicolas Kristof.
The local team did not seem to have heard this warning shot, because only a little later Honsak appeared freely in front of the goal after a nice pass from Scienza and finished the cold for the first guest advance.
The following reverse for Elversberg followed after a good quarter of an hour when midfielder Semih Sahin had to get off the field. Carlo Sickinger came to get him. But Heidenheim also had to face early failure. For Piertinger, it was also finished after 23 minutes. Guest coach Frank Schmidt brought Budu Zivzivadze for him.
SV Elversberg class response
In the middle of the first half, the local team has increased more and more control of the game and rewarded for their efforts with equalization. With a simple pass, Tom Zimmerschied exploited the whole defense Heidenheim. Fellhauer kept his nerves in front of the guest goalkeeper Kevin Müller and easily pushed.
Shortly after the break, the Elversberger applauded again – but only briefly. Because to the goal of striker Fisnik Asllani, Muhammed Damar was previously offside. It was also checked if the Elversberg player had intervened, but referee Sascha Stegemann could not see a passive role.
Who has now played from tension. Elversberg had controlled the control of the game, replied Heidenheim – and not even harmless. Luca Kerber moved to a short distance (67th). However, he took the fifth minute of the time of downtime before Scienta reaches the winning goal with great individual performance.
