SC Freiburg and TSG Hoffenheim are said to be interested, but Thierno Barry (21) seems to be leaving FC Basel for Villarreal. This was indicated from the beginning of the speculation around the French center forward and, according to information from the portal « Relevo », it will take place this week. Once again, the Swiss charge very high transfer fees.

At Villarreal FC, Barry inherits former Leipzig player Alexander Sørloth, who joined Atlético Madrid and brought more than 30 million euros into their coffers. This is also why the Valencian club is able to reinvest a large sum of money for Barry. According to some reports, 15 million euros are due, including bonuses. The basic fee could be estimated at 12 million euros.

For Basel, revenues continue to grow strongly in the previous and current summer transfer windows. For the fifth time since July 2023, FCB would sell a player for more than €10 million. Revenues in this period could reach €110 million, which would currently mean a place in the top 40 of the global revenue rankings for this period. In the current transfer window, midfielder Renato Veiga left St. Jakob-Park for Chelsea FC. Among the departures last year was Riccardo Calafiori, who – due to his involvement in the last Arsenal transfer – was the second most expensive sale in Basel’s history.

Barry moved to Basel in 2023. After a difficult start, the 1.95 meter striker started scoring goals in the new year. By the end of the season, there were at least nine goals in 35 games. In the new season, he has already scored eight goals in just over 280 minutes of action – five goals in three league games and three in the first round of the cup. The contract in Basel would be valid until 2027. At Villarreal, they hope to be able to bring Barry to Spain on Tuesday.
