The longtime director of Bundesliga, Oliver Ruhnert, withdrew to professional (Site notre bureau spécialisé) after his failed candidacy for the Bundestag. The former head of the Youth Department of FC Schalke 04 has only worked as a chief scout since 2017, then as a sports director for the union. At his own request, Ruhnert resumed the position of the chief scout before this season and let him rest from January 2025 to focus on his electoral campaign for the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance. During the Bundestag elections on Sunday, however, his party failed the obstacle of five percent. As a direct candidate of the Berlin-Marzahn-Hellersdorf district, Ruhnert also obtained only the fifth best result of eight candidates with 8.6% of the vote. His contract with the 1st FC Union is still resting until the end of February. « Honestly, I feel very comfortable in my function of the chief scout and I am not looking for other functions, » said Ruhnert.
