Hugo Larsson has left the Swedish national team prematurely. According to SvFF, the Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder is suffering from a « minor » injury, which is why he will miss the Nations League match against Estonia on Sunday evening (8:45 p.m.). « Of course it’s sad. I would have liked to help the team, but unfortunately that’s not possible due to my injury. I am convinced that we will get three points like last Thursday, » the 20-year-old said in a statement.

Larsson will continue his rehabilitation with his club Frankfurt, it has been reported. Sweden celebrated a 3-1 away win against Azerbaijan at the start of the Nations League – Larsson was not used by national coach Jon Dahl Tomasson. According to reports, Larsson’s departure is in no way (only) due to physical reasons.

« It’s a sad situation, » the right-(Site notre bureau spécialisé)er recently said about his exclusion (quoted via « Sportbladet »). Tomasson had publicly stated that he expected more vertical passes from Larsson. The man himself would have liked internal communication from the national coach. « I also told him that I would have preferred it to stay between us or within the team. Some things should stay within the family and that didn’t happen, » complained Larsson, who made headlines despite not having had any playing time at home.

« Of course I’m very disappointed, » said Larrson. « Especially after my debut in Germany, where I scored a goal in almost every game. I probably hoped I could continue my form. » Which he was not allowed to prove for Sweden. In the new season, the young midfielder has scored one goal and one assist in three club appearances. Since his €9 million move from Malmö FF a year ago, he has scored six goals in 41 competitive games for Eintracht. Larsson’s contract with SGE runs until 2029. So far, he has played six times for his country’s national team, making his first appearance on 9 January 2023 under Tomasson’s predecessor Janne Andersson.

According to « fussball.news » journalist Christopher Michel, Larsson is expected to return to training at Eintracht on Tuesday and, contrary to what the Swedish (Site notre blog d’information) Association has reported, there are no injuries. It is therefore assumed that the disagreements with Tomasson played a special role.
