Defeat after 2 victories

Accompanied by riots in the stands, championship leader FC St. Pauli kept third-placed Hannover 96 at bay. The showpiece match of the 2nd Bundesliga at the Millerntor Stadium, briefly interrupted on Friday evening due to a police operation in the guests’ fan block, ended 0-0. Hanover remains relegated for the moment, five points behind.

From the 75th minute onwards, the Lower Saxony fans got into a heated argument for an as yet unknown reason – first among themselves, then with the police officers. Sometimes there were fights and throwing of cups and sticks. The 96 supporters removed their banners and stopped supporting. Play resumed after about five minutes.

The game previously offered fans a few highlights. Many mistakes accompanied the first half. The hosts were the better team after a balanced start. Strong winger Elias Saad repeatedly provoked dangerous actions in front of the 96 goal.

In the second half, the inaccuracies continued on both sides. On the contrary, the hosts have become dangerous. But no further goals were scored.

Lost again after 2 victories: SV Elversberg stops Schalke’s upward trend

After two recent victories, FC Schalke 04 suffered another setback. Schalke lost to newcomer SV Elversberg 1:2 (1:2) and is still stuck at the bottom of the table. The Sarrois, strong on the other hand, managed to return to the first half of the ranking thanks to their sixth victory of the season.

Paul Stock (7th) and Jannik Rochelt (21st) gave Elversberg the advantage. Kenan Karaman (35th) scored Schalke’s goal. In the second half, the hosts were the better team, but failed to convert their scoring chances.

Unimpressed by the largest crowd in the Elversberg club’s history to date in the Schalke Arena, which was almost sold out with 61,110 spectators, the guests surprised their opponents with two quick goals. Stock took advantage of Schalke’s sloppy defensive behavior to take an early lead. 14 minutes later, the striker delivered the decisive pass on Rochelt’s goal.

Due to their sleepy opening phase, Schalke were still behind and found no remedy for half an hour against Elversberger’s courageous play.

Thanks to Karaman’s goal, Schalke improved and from then on, coach Karel Geraerts’ team pushed for the equalizer in an entertaining match. Karaman and Henning Matriciani had several better chances after the break, but the goal was never scored.
