During a friendly match against Egypt this Monday, the coach of the Algerian national team Djamel Belmadi found himself in a conflicting situation with one of the team’s executives.
After being named first in the qualifying group for the Next African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast in January, Algeria has been playing friendly matches since mid-September. After winning against Senegal (0-1) and dominating Cape Verde (5-1) last season, the Fennecs attacked Egypt to win this international.
Despite a higher numerical value after 65 minutes, Djamel Belmadi’s players failed to win this match (1-1). However, the incident is also marked by this meeting with Saïd Benrahma and his selection.
Belmadi called Benrahma by the collar
In the 63rd minute of play, the former Olympique de Marseille player decided to make two changes, including that of Saïd Benrahma, replaced by Houssem Aouar. Visibly frustrated when he leaves the field, the 28-year-old does not greet his coach, which displeases Belmadi.
While some coaches often prefer to ignore these incidents, the Algerian technicians hold Benrahma by the arm before grabbing his collar. There are several centimeters in the body, the two men are gathered from the point of view, accompanied by the video watch below. A discussion will likely take place in the locker room regarding what Djamel Belmadi considers to be a lack of respect.

During the draw for the African Cup of Nations a few days ago, Algeria was placed in Group D with Mauritania, Angola and Burkina Faso. The Fennecs are favorites in this group. Before that, Riyad Mahrez’s teammates will begin the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in November.
