Bruno Fernandes is no longer expected to captain Manchester United after Sunday’s humiliating 7-0 loss to Liverpool, says Chris Sutton.

« There are people who are much better qualified to be captains, » Sutton said.

“Fernandes is not their best leader. There are more approved candidates than him, Casemiro being one. »

Feeding on BBC 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, former Premier League attache Sutton, who also suggested Raphael Varane as another option, added: « I think he should never hand over the armband for Manchester again United. « 

Fernandes, 28, 57 goals and 50 assists decided in 166 games for the club in all competitions, but his body language at Anfield was called « shameful » by former United captain Roy Keane, while another former skipper, Gary Neville, said he was « embarrassing at times ».
