Topraktepe takes over for now

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is no longer the coach of Besiktas. The 49-year-old had to retire on Saturday after just under five months. Istanbul’s top club are only fifth in the Süper Lig after 13 games and have just six points in the Europa League after five games.
It was only during the summer that van Bronckhorst, who still had a points average of 2.01 at Glasgow Rangers (1.70 at Besiktas), took over at the second attempt. At the start of the year he was considered the new coach – at that time former Polish national coach Santos was in the running. Former assistant coach Serdar Topraktepe will now take over as interim coach.
